  • Bertec Balance Advantage

The Balance Center’s Bertec Balance Advantage is a state-of-the-art balance testing and training system, purchased in 2015 thanks to generous support from Dorchester Hospital Foundation. The Bertec uses an immersive visual field that reflects a computer generated image to stimulate the patient’s visual system. The image can be changed during treatment, which allows for more complete treatment and better recovery. The Bertec surface also is moveable, allowing the therapist to test patients’ reaction times, their ability to control posture/balance with ground changes, and the function of their vestibular system. All of this information is compared to national norms, which helps to quantify level of involvement and, upon retesting, to measure the patient’s ongoing patient’s progress.
