Shore Behavioral Health Services offers a complete continuum of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and substance use disorder services to patients and their families throughout the five county region served by UM Shore Regional Health.

Providers are affiliated with University of Maryland Community Medical Group, a multi-hospital, multi-specialty network of University of Maryland Medical System providers all serving the people of Maryland.
The Shore Behavioral Health team also includes clinical coordinators, nurses and nurse managers, therapists, licensed clinical social workers, certified addiction counselors and other support staff. For each patient, the team works together to provide comprehensive, compassionate care using an evidence-based, recovery-oriented approach.
Inpatient Care: UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester offers 24-bed inpatient unit suitable for treatment of both psychiatric conditions as well as substance use disorders. In 2013, a $2.5 million renovation of the inpatient unit was funded in part by a $1 million grant from the State of Maryland. Additional funding has been provided by the DGH Foundation and the DGH Auxiliary.
Outpatient Programs: Also available at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester are two outpatient program: the Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (MH IOP), which provides a highly structured approach to providing group therapy for patients suffering from numerous serious mental illnesses, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, thought disorders and/or personality disorders; and the Bridge Clinic, which provides treatment and support to patients transitioning from inpatient care to outpatient care. Shore Behavioral Health’s outpatient Addiction Services, based at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton, provides treatment and support for individuals needing assessment/evaluation for inpatient care or detoxification; individual and group therapy; family education and peer support; guidance in interacting with Drug Courts and the legal system; and life assessment and counseling.
Behavioral Health Response Team: Shore Behavioral Health’s Behavioral Health Response Team is an interdisciplinary group of licensed mental health professionals that performs mental health and substance abuse evaluations and referrals to consumers in all three hospitals, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Team also answers calls from individuals in the community about emergency services and outpatient and inpatient resources.
