For immediate release: June 29, 2016
The 2nd Annual Sporting Clays Classic held June 11 at The Point at Pintail in Queenstown was a great success, raising $103,774 to benefit the community outreach program provided by the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health.
Offered by UM Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Sporting Clays Classic attracted 252 registered shooters who enjoyed morning competition and picnic-style lunch, along with prizes, a raffle and a silent auction of items donated by local businesses and community members.
Strong sponsorship support received from more than 60 individuals and businesses played a vital role in the success of the event, for which the goal was $100,000. Sponsorship support and silent auction contributions accounted for more than $82,000 raised during the event. Top sponsors included the Auxiliary of Easton – UM Shore Regional Health, Ferry Point Marina, Preston Automotive Group and Jack & Susan Stoltz.
“We can’t thank our many sponsors enough for the commitment they have shown to their community and to all the women who will benefit from our community outreach program,” says Tom Pyper, chairperson for the event. “Funds raised by the Sporting Clays Classic will give opportunity for education and screening services to women who would have otherwise not had access.”
Prizes were given to each of the winners of the highest overall score in their category, as follows: David Collins Jr. (men’s), Chris Corkell (women’s), Caleb Scott (junior’s) and Roger Becker, David Collins Jr., David Collins Sr., and Chris Corkell (team).
The top three of each Lewis class also received prizes, as follows: 1st place Mike Parkhurst, 2nd place Chris Cox, 3rd place Mike Helmick (Lewis Class One), 1st place Warren Wilson, 2nd place, Don Wright; 3rd place, Brad Larrimore (Lewis Class Two); and 1st place Jason Pierce, 2nd place Richard Kenney, 3rd place Dan Neth (Lewis Class Three).
The UM MHF is ready to get back at it again for next year. The 3rd Annual UM Shore Regional Sporting Clay Classic is all set for Saturday, June 10, 2017.
“Thank you to all who came out and made the Sporting Clays Classic such a successful and fun event,” says F. Graham Lee, vice president for philanthropy. “We are looking forward to next year and hope to see everyone join us again.”
