University of Maryland Shore Regional Health has announced that its expanded Breast Center – opening in April 2016 at 10 Martin Court in Easton – will be named the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center in recognition of a $5 million gift from The Clark Charitable Foundation, a private philanthropic organization funded by the A. James Clark Family.
University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation recently accepted the pledge from The Clark Charitable Foundation, which will be used to fund the construction of the expanded Center in addition to equipment and technologies used in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.
“The Clark Charitable Foundation is happy to provide support to assist with the expansion of health care services and technologies available throughout the region served by University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore,” comments Courtney Clark Pastrick, president of The Clark Charitable Foundation. “It is important to our organization to provide the Eastern Shore community with access to exceptional breast health services, leading-edge technologies, outreach programs and support services.”
“We are beyond grateful for the generosity of The Clark Charitable Foundation,” comments Moorhead Vermilye, vice chair, UM Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and campaign chair for the Comprehensive Breast Center project. “As a result of this gift, women throughout the five-county region served by UM Shore Regional Health will have greater access to exceptional care, offered by leading breast health medical providers, which will improve the patient experience, patient outcomes and ultimately save lives.”
The expansion is part of a $6.5 million renovation project currently in progress at UM Shore Regional Health’s Diagnostic and Imaging Center, which also encompasses the laboratory and imaging spaces within the facility. The Clark Comprehensive Breast Center, under the leadership of Roberta J. Lilly, MD, MPH, FACS, will provide a variety of breast health services including consultation and diagnostic procedures. The new location will be adjacent to Shore Regional Health’s Cancer Center, which will provide patients in need of cancer treatments with a more convenient, comprehensive treatment approach.
“Our team is committed to providing high quality, patient-centered breast health services to the women we serve,” remarks Dr. Lilly. “The new Clark Comprehensive Breast Center will enhance the convenience and accessibility of the services we provide, as patients will now be able to obtain consultation and diagnostic testing – including state-of-the-art 3D mammography – in one location.”
In addition to the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease, the Center will continue to offer a multitude of support services including support groups, telemedicine genetic counseling services and the Wellness for Women program, a breast screening program that promotes early detection of breast cancer.
To date, University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation has received nearly $5.4 million in pledges for the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center expansion project.
