Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary
The Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary has worked to raise funds for University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorhester since its founding, primarily through retail sales at the Hospitality Shop, located at the hospital, and The Robin Hood Shop, a thrift shop located at 416 High Street in Cambridge. Annually, the Auxiliary’s volunteers give nearly 20,000 hours of time and talent to the hospital for the benefit of the patients in the community.

Auxiliary volunteers play a crucial role in the daily operation of the hospital and contribute in countless ways to assure the highest-possible satisfaction to patients and visitors. Volunteers are a resource in clinical areas, providing assistance in multiple areas. They provide service to visitors at the information desk and participate in the Surgical Hostess Program, which provides assistance to nursing staff, surgical patients and their visitors while in the surgical department. Additionally, hospital volunteers provide free blood pressure screenings in the hospital lobby every Tuesday and Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Hospitality Shop is operated and staffed by Auxiliary volunteers and offers a variety of gifts, jewelry, books, cards, seasonal decorative items, flowers and snacks. Volunteer duties include sales clerk positions, stocking shelves, general tidying, changing displays and year-end inventory.
The Gift Shop is open from 10 am-4pm, Monday through Thursday.
Operated by the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary to benefit programs and services at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, the Robin Hood Shop offers gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, fashion accessories and household items.
Shop hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
Volunteers assist by sorting, tagging and displaying donated merchandise as well as staffing the store during business hours.
